Application context for an automatic mig welding machine is the material route into the weld, not a promise that a power source will become a cell. Confirm whether the RFQ includes motion, fixtures and control integration or only the welding package. Upstream and downstream interfaces, representative production samples and the gun plus wire-feed kit still have to be named. Laser welding and full robotic welding cells remain separate scopes unless you add those lines.

If the path is automatic, list fixture datums, expected cycle time as joints per hour under those blanks, and whether a PLC interface must handshake with upstream conveyors. Buying only a power source keeps the machine line smaller and leaves motion, fixtures, guarding and control integration with the buyer or a second contractor. Buying a packaged automatic station moves those costs onto one quote but changes acceptance: FAT must include path, fixture and weld quality together. Mixing the two envelopes without writing the split is how “automatic” totals become incomparable. That is the single-machine versus integrated-line dispute.

Ask who owns torch-to-work distance, seam finding, and recovery after a missed start. Ask which gun, liner and contact-tip set ships with the station. Ask whether spare parts for those items are in the pack. Do not treat a robotic welding cell RFQ as interchangeable with this page unless the buyer added that cell as its own line.
